Podcasts are slowly becoming my favorite medium, and from talking to friends and family, it seems I’m not the only one. I started listening to podcasts back in the dark ages of 2010, before Serial. And I even spent time producing my own back in 2011, interviewing whomever I could, and telling whatever stories I could possibly come up with.
Then Serial came out, with its NPR sleekness and vocal fry, and what followed was somewhat of a podcasting revolution.

I keep a journal in an app called Day One. While I don’t think everyone should use this app necessarily, it has a great tagging feature. I tag everything in it from good days to bad days, days where I’ve felt tired, symptoms I’ve had, any interesting changes in my child.
A few years ago, someone sent me an incredible email complimenting my music.

There were so many toys growing up, so many interesting obsessions and fascinations.
The slinky, a world of wonder. The physics that we didn’t need — didn’t want— to understand and the joy of watching the mystery unfold right in front of us.
Or what about the view master? With its reels created specifically for the device itself, better than a shake-me-up kaleidoscope, but not quite a personal movie viewing station (yet).
Whenever my son eats part of our meal, we cut it up into small pieces so he can use the very few teeth he has to chew the food properly without choking.
And when I was a teacher, I tried to teach lessons that covered a tiny aspect of one skill. Doing word problems that used two or more operations (like addition and multiplication) was a skill that was spread out over five lessons or so.

I was part of a show recently and so far have read three reviews of it. And even though I was an opener at the show, I was mentioned in all three of them.
Two of them said really nice things about me, and it was clear they understood what I was going for with my art. The other one clearly didn’t. And of course, it’s always the one that doesn’t really get it that sticks with an artist, despite the accolades that outnumber the criticisms.
