An Argument Against Juicing

One of the most interesting documentaries I’ve watched in the past decade is called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. In it, the filmmakers make the case for juicing, claiming that since juice contains all of the nutrients in the actual fruit or vegetable, so drinking juice will put those nutrients directly into our bloodstream, much more quickly than it would if we were to spend time digesting a vegetable. But if you start to pick through the research, you come across an interesting fact: many of the benefits of eating a plant come from eating it whole, due to the fiber and extra nutrients that are discarded when you juice.

Cheating Vs Relaxing

There’s a concept in the dieting world called a “cheat day,” where the dieter will stick to a strict diet most of the time, but will take one day to indulge in the things they like, the things that they were trying to give up by dieting in the first place. This could also apply for non-dieting situations, in which the hopeful habit changer is trying to restrict their use of some other kind of drug.

The Intention Convenience Curve

The art of catching a show on TV is dead. The only time where I actually watch live TV anymore is at a hotel, or perhaps on an airplane which doesn’t really count as live TV anyway. There was a time where I would dart back from my 5:30 block class at university just to catch the latest episode of Prison Break. And today, all of Stranger Things 3 is available on Netflix right now.

I was curious what would happen I stayed up all night. So hour by hour, I eventually got to the end. The sun rose and I hadn’t missed anything. The end of the rainbow is also useful when trying to lose weight.
