What happens when your system of [[thinking]] becomes personalized?
I’ve been thinking a lot about what [[critical thinking]] really means.
You’ll find many definitions on Google. Most definitions make it sound like critical thinking means using your rational judgment, putting emotion aside, and solving a problem of some kind.
I agree with this, but I believe we need to think (critically) about what this looks like in classrooms in the age of generative AI.
I’ve now seen a few posts where people who position themselves as AI experts ridicule their audience by telling them that if they use the term “AI” to describe an LLM (such as ChatGPT) that they will sound “foolish” or “silly.” While it is true that using terms like LLM or Generative to describe different kinds of AI tools is more specific in some contexts, it does NOT make you sound foolish to call something like ChatGPT an AI.
Over the years that I’ve been teaching college classes, there’s a disturbing trend which I assume was picked up in grade school: the students believe that good note-taking involves writing down as much as they can of what the professor says during the lecture.
This misunderstanding of how to take good notes results in a lot of push-back over my technology policy (which is to be as tech free as possible).
“Leave emotion at the door” is a common phrase when it comes to entering the work place.
There’s also the famous “work life” balance, as if life is not part work, and work is not part of life.
As you seek direction, betterment, peace, tranquality, whatever it is you’re here for…
Keep in mind this important fact: it’s all life.
And, it’s all work.
Sometimes it happens in an office.
Do you like advice?
If so, you’re not alone. Many people on the LinkedIn platform are here for career advancement.
There are not only many people giving advice, but there are also many people who lack a sense of direction and are looking for advice.
Therefore, it’s common to see a lot of advice here about what you should be doing and what you shouldn’t.
