It’s essential to know what your superpower is, what you contribute to the universe. It’s probably not what your parents told you it is, or what you studied in college (though it might be). It might not be something for which you will ever be paid.

+++ title = “11” date = 2019 +++ If you set the start time for an event at 5, it’s because you have young children. Or perhaps a very efficient social life. Or perhaps a need for sunlight. If you set the start time for an event at 6, it’s because you want to go to bed early. If you set the start time for an event at 7, it’s because you want to be social.

For five minutes a day, over the last few months, I’ve spent time doing nothing. That is, I sit on a cushion or chair, without my phone, staring straight ahead at the wall. Thoughts come and go and I observe them like the weather. Or at least, I try to – and if I get swept away, I forgive myself and try again. It’s been a wonderful experience, not because it’s been calming or new age, but it’s enabled me to allow pain, happiness, and other emotions come to a boil and then reduce to a simmer.

Have you ever written an angry email? Have you ever received one? To be on either end of the exchange is stressful. On the receiving end, you read someone else’s scathing words with no opportunity to immediately respond. Like having your mouth stuffed with a cloth while someone circles you and berates you. And when you’re writing an angry email, you’re processing your feelings. There’s a reason you chose email as a form of communication over a phone call or an in-person meeting, which is that it’s easier to call someone out when they can’t respond easily.

It’s one of those special powers we have as animals. A scent is a characteristic smell. You’d know if it you smelled it again. Scents are things like asparagus, rubber, and coffee. An aroma is typically a pleasant scent. Whereas the scent classification would apply to a skunk odor, an aroma is a positive experience.
